2027 KTM 390 Enduro R Debuts at EICMA: 45 HP LC4c Single and 231mm WP Legs
45 hp & 159 kg + 399cc LC4c single with 231mm WP APEX travel and 21/18-inch hoops + KTM cuts the touring fat to build an uncompromised European dual-sport.

KTM has officially pulled the wraps off the production 2027 KTM 390 Enduro R at EICMA 2026 in Milan, delivering a stripped-back, competition-derived dual-sport weapon built specifically for technical trail riders. While the market has been flooded with faired, overweight soft-roaders, Mattighofen has taken its proven 399cc LC4c thumper and wrapped it in a dedicated lightweight chassis with full-size 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoked wheels.
Where the freshly updated KTM 390 Adventure R targets long-distance trans-continental gravel crossings with touring plastics and an upright screen, the 390 Enduro R is aimed squarely at weekend enduro loops, Alpine green lanes, and the TET (Trans Euro Trail). It directly answers the newly unveiled Suzuki DR-Z4S by offering 45 horsepower in an agile 159 kg package.
45 HP LC4c Single and 231mm WP APEX Legs
The 2027 KTM 390 Enduro R produces 45 hp (33 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 39 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm from its Euro 5+ compliant 399cc DOHC single-cylinder engine. Power is channeled through a six-speed transmission paired with a mechanical PASC slipper clutch and ride-by-wire throttle management.
Underneath the minimalist bodywork sits a powder-coated chromoly steel trellis frame paired with a pressure-die-cast swingarm. Suspension is handled by fully adjustable 43mm WP APEX open-cartridge upside-down forks offering 231 mm of wheel travel, mirrored at the rear by a linkless WP APEX monoshock with 231 mm of stroke. That setup yields an uncompromising 272 mm of ground clearance and a towering 890 mm seat height.
Stopping duties fall to ByBre hydraulics, featuring a single 285 mm front disc clamped by a radial two-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc. Electronic rider aids are governed by the latest Bosch 10.3 ABS unit, featuring an off-road mode that completely deactivates rear-wheel intervention while softening front-wheel slip threshold for loose gravel descents.
“We built the 390 Enduro R for riders who measure a weekend ride in topographical contours and elevation gain rather than motorway miles,” notes KTM’s off-road chassis development team. “It is not a softened roadster with knobby tires; it is an authentic enduro platform engineered to take real European trail abuse.”
The Rider’s Trade-Off: Trail Agility Versus Highway Range
The fundamental engineering compromise of the 390 Enduro R lies in its 9-liter fuel cell and razor-thin motocross bench. In pursuit of competitive stand-up ergonomics and knee clearance, KTM eliminated the bulbous fuel flanks found on the Adventure sibling.
With an estimated consumption of 3.4 l/100 km, the 9-liter tank restricts safe touring range to approximately 220 km before reserve anxiety sets in. Riders planning 500-kilometer liaisons will contend with wind blast from the minimalist LED headlight mask and the firm foam profile of an authentic dirt seat. However, the trade-off pays immediate dividends on single-track ascents: shaving roughly 16 kg compared to the Adventure model yields effortless line corrections over tree roots, rock steps, and mud ruts.
