Honda Launches the XR300L and XR300 Rally in India, and the Cheap One Is Still Pretty Good
Two new Honda dual-sports land in India: the XR300L from INR 1.83 lakh, and the touring-focused XR300 Rally from INR 2.08 lakh.
Honda has launched two new dual-sport motorcycles in India, the XR300L and the XR300 Rally, and for once I’m not even mad that it’s an India-only launch — this is exactly the kind of cheap, honest dual-sport that Europe’s showrooms could use more of. The XR300L starts at ₹1.83 lakh (roughly €1,970), with the more touring-focused XR300 Rally at ₹2.08 lakh (roughly €2,240).
The engine and the price
Both the Honda XR300L and the Honda XR300 Rally use a 293.5cc air- and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine related to the unit in the Honda CB300F, paired with a six-speed gearbox. International versions of this engine make around 24.3hp and 26.5Nm, though Honda hasn’t published final India-spec figures yet. Both bikes are built locally and sold through Honda’s BigWing dealership network, with bookings already open.
| Spec | XR300L | XR300 Rally |
|---|---|---|
| Price (India) | ₹1.83 lakh (~€1,970) | ₹2.08 lakh (~€2,240) |
| Engine | 293.5cc single | 293.5cc single (same) |
| Power/torque | ~24.3 hp / 26.5 Nm (intl. spec) | ~24.3 hp / 26.5 Nm (intl. spec) |
| Fuel tank | 7.8 L | 13 L |
| Instrument display | LCD | 5-inch TFT |
| Front/rear wheels | 21 in / 18 in, wire-spoke | 21 in / 18 in, wire-spoke |
| Extras | — | Taller screen, knuckle guards, rally bodywork |
What the extra €270 buys you
The jump from the XR300L to the XR300 Rally isn’t cosmetic padding — the Rally’s 13-litre tank is nearly double the L’s 7.8 litres, which on a 24hp single is the difference between a weekend trail bike and something you’d actually trust on a multi-day route. The Rally also swaps the L’s basic LCD dash for a 5-inch TFT, and adds a taller windscreen and knuckle guards that the base bike goes without. Both get long-travel suspension — telescopic forks up front, a monoshock at the rear — switchable dual-channel ABS, traction control, and 21-inch front/18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels wrapped in dual-purpose rubber.
What we know
- XR300L: ₹1.83 lakh (~€1,970), 7.8-litre tank, LCD dash.
- XR300 Rally: ₹2.08 lakh (~€2,240), 13-litre tank, 5-inch TFT, taller screen and knuckle guards.
- Same 293.5cc single-cylinder engine and six-speed gearbox across both.
- Both locally built in India, sold through Honda BigWing dealerships, bookings open now.
What’s still unclear
- Final India-spec power and torque figures — Honda hasn’t confirmed whether the India versions match the ~24.3hp/26.5Nm international spec exactly.
- Kerb weight and suspension travel figures, not yet published by Honda.
- Whether either bike is headed to European markets at all — this is an India launch only for now.
It’s the same formula that’s been working for Honda’s small-bore dual-sports everywhere else — I’ve been banging on about the nine adventure bikes under €10,000 you can actually buy in Europe for a while now, and a sub-€2,500 Honda dual-sport would slot straight into that list if it ever crossed the Mediterranean. In the meantime, India’s own small-bike market is only getting more interesting — TVS just outsold both Hero and Honda there for the first time, so Honda picking this exact moment to launch two new dual-sports isn’t a coincidence.
