Honda's V3R 900 E-Compressor just shed its camouflage, and I'm not okay. Not in a bad way. In the way where I've now looked at grayscale patent line drawings for twenty straight minutes like they're a Rorschach test for my own life choices.

Here's what happened: Honda filed to protect the design rights for what's clearly the production version of the V3R 900 E-Compressor, first shown as a prototype at EICMA. The filing was lodged with Australia's IP office back in March, citing an earlier Japanese filing from October 2025 that's still under embargo, and it only became public this month. Unlike the disguised prototype — wrapped in enough geometric camo to make your eyes cross — these design filings show the bike essentially naked, stripped down to line art, with all the road-legal bits added: mirrors, turn signals, reflectors, a license plate holder. That last part matters more than it sounds like it should. Prototypes don't need license plate mounts. Production bikes do.

The bones are unchanged from the prototype, and thank god, because the prototype's bones are the whole point. The headlight is the same aggressive unit. The asymmetrical side cowls are still there, the right one noticeably bigger than the left, working double duty as an air intake and airbox feeding the e-compressor sitting above the front cylinder bank. Honda's engine here runs two cylinders pointed forward and one pointed back in a 75-degree V — a configuration nobody else is really doing — with the electrically-controlled compressor boosting the 900cc engine to roughly 1,200cc-equivalent output. The inverted fork, dual radial Nissin calipers, unique rotor design, and single-side swingarm on a Pro-Link rear end all carry over untouched.

Honda's expected to make it official at EICMA in November, alongside full specs, which gives me exactly enough time to convince myself this is the bike that finally gets me back on a proper multi-day trip instead of the 40-minute loop I've been doing since May because that's apparently my current riding radius. I've already started the mental packing list. I have not yet told my wife there's a mental packing list.
