Kove has officially broadened its Dakar-tested rally raid architecture into the European learner tier at EICMA 2026 in Milan, unveiling the production 2027 Kove 125 Rally. Designed from the ground up for European A1 and CBT licence holders, the new machine packages full-sized desert competition ergonomics, long-travel suspension, and high ground clearance into a motorcycle weighing just 122 kg dry.

While most 125cc dual-sports compromise on wheel sizes or suspension travel to lower seat heights for road-biased commuters, the Kove 125 Rally refuses to soften its Dakar lineage. It lands directly in the crosshairs of the recently revived Yamaha WR125R and the Aprilia RX 125, giving young riders an unapologetic off-road tool.

The A1 Powertrain: 15 HP Tuned for Trail Cadence

The 2027 Kove 125 Rally is powered by a clean-sheet 124.7cc liquid-cooled, four-valve, DOHC single-cylinder engine producing exactly 15 hp (11 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 11 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, hitting the absolute legal maximum for the European A1 licensing class. Fuel injection is managed by an electronic Bosch system calibrated for immediate low-rpm throttle response rather than high-rpm track screaming, paired with a six-speed transmission and an assist-and-slipper clutch to eliminate rear-wheel hop during aggressive trail downshifts.

“Our goal with the 125 Rally was never to build a softened commuter wearing aggressive stickers,” stated Kove engineering at the Milan debut. “It shares the cockpit geometry, nav-tower packaging, and weight distribution lessons learned from our factory Dakar 450 Rally program, adapted precisely for entry-level riders.”

Power delivery through the lower gears is deliberately short-ratio to haul the machine up loose hill climbs, while sixth gear acts as a moderate overdrive for rural European b-road transits. Cooling is handled by oversized dual radiators protected by reinforced louvres designed to survive brush strikes and low-speed tip-overs in deep ruts.

Full-Scale Chassis: 21-Inch Front and 240mm Ground Clearance

Underneath its rally navigation tower, the Kove 125 Rally rides on a high-tensile steel semi-double cradle frame suspended by a 41mm inverted front fork offering 215 mm of wheel travel and a link-type rear monoshock with 210 mm of travel. Full-size 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked aluminum wheels are wrapped in knobby dual-sport rubber, giving the chassis an impressive 240 mm of unladen ground clearance to clear deep rocks, fallen logs, and washouts.

Cockpit technology is anchored by a rally-style portrait 6.75-inch full-colour TFT display mounted high behind a clear aerodynamic windscreen. The instrument cluster provides turn-by-turn navigation mirroring, gear indication, and a dedicated off-road mode that disengages rear-wheel ABS while maintaining front anti-lock protection for technical descending.

The Rider’s Trade-Off: Stand-Up Control vs. Daily Commuter Comfort

Engineering a genuine rally-raid weapon inside the 125cc category demands real physical compromises. In prioritizing an authentic rally riding triangle and 240 mm of rock clearance, Kove pinned the 125 Rally’s seat height at a tall 860 mm. The narrow rally bench seat is designed for seamless transitions between seated cornering and standing on the serrated steel pegs, but offers minimal cushioning for two-hour highway slogs.

Furthermore, carrying a generous 12.5-litre fuel tank behind the steering head ensures an exceptional ~380 km riding range, but when topped off with fuel, it raises the centre of gravity noticeably compared to low-slung street nakeds like the KTM 125 Duke. For riders under 175 cm, touching flat-footed at traffic lights in central Rome or London will require conscious commitment.

Alongside its larger sibling, the Kove 350 Rally, and heavyweight Dakar platforms like the Sherco Sahara 450, the 125 Rally proves that lightweight simplicity remains the most potent antidote to bloated adventure touring. European deliveries are scheduled to begin across EU dealerships in spring 2027, with targeted pricing expected near €4,490.
