Ducati’s Panigale V4 range is getting a new middle child. A revised California Air Resources Board filing, submitted by Ducati in July, confirms a 2027 Panigale V4 SP – and this time there’s no ambiguity about where it slots in: “between the standard V4, and the race homologated V4 R.” I read regulatory paperwork for a living apparently, and I’m still not over it.

What the filing actually confirms

Ducati’s CARB submission adds a new Panigale V4 SP variant to a lineup that was already certified back in March 2026. It doesn’t come with spec sheets or press photos – CARB filings never do – but it does confirm the engine: the same 1,103cc Desmosedici Stradale V4 used across the rest of the V4 family. No power figure, no price, no reveal date. Just a name and a slot in the range that Ducati apparently felt needed filling.

Where the SP badge has been before

Ducati’s used the SP designation on and off for years, and the pattern is consistent enough to guess from. Past SP and SP2 versions of the Panigale added adjustable billet aluminium footpegs, a brushed aluminium fuel tank, carbon fibre wheels, a lighter 520-series chain, upgraded Brembo brakes, and the Ducati Data Analyzer+ logging kit as standard – the stuff a trackday regular would otherwise spend a full winter bolting on piece by piece. None of that is confirmed for the 2027 bike yet, but it’s the obvious template, and it’s exactly the kind of thing that turns a Sunday of “just going to watch some laps” into a credit-card statement I don’t want to open.

Reveal expected Ducati World Première series, autumn 2026

What we know

  • Ducati’s own CARB filing confirms a 2027 Panigale V4 SP exists and uses the 1,103cc V4 engine shared with the rest of the range.
  • Ducati itself describes the SP’s position as sitting between the standard V4/V4 S and the race-homologated V4 R.
  • No pricing, power figures, or official images have been released.

What’s still unclear

  • Whether it carries an SP2-style spec (the full trackday parts bin) or a lighter, cheaper SP tier.
  • Exact pricing – expect it to land somewhere between the current V4 S and V4 R once EU pricing is confirmed.
  • Whether the reveal happens alongside Ducati’s other 2027 World Première models this autumn, or gets its own moment.

I’ve been telling myself I’m doing a trackday before the season ends since about April, and every one of these Ducati stories resets the clock. The garage still has a bike in it that hasn’t seen a circuit since last year, but sure, this is the one that finally gets me there.

Ducati’s EUR121M R&D fund secured earlier this year is presumably paying for at least some of this – filling out the superbike range isn’t cheap, and the timing with Chinese rivals closing the performance gap isn’t a coincidence. It’s also not the only European flagship getting a mid-cycle refresh: BMW’s next-generation S1000RR is going through its own overhaul for 2027, so the litre-superbike class is about to get busy again.

When will the Ducati Panigale V4 SP be revealed?

Ducati hasn’t given a date. The CARB filing only confirms the model exists; a reveal alongside Ducati’s other 2027 World Première models this autumn is the most likely path, based on how Ducati has rolled out past model-year updates.

How much will the Panigale V4 SP cost?

Unconfirmed. Expect it to sit between the current Panigale V4 S (~€35,600 / £30,695 in the UK) and the V4 R (~€45,200 / £38,995), given where Ducati says the SP slots into the range.

What’s different between the SP and the standard Panigale V4?

Not confirmed for 2027, but past SP and SP2 models added adjustable billet footpegs, carbon fibre wheels, a brushed aluminium tank, upgraded Brembo brakes, and the DDA+ data logger over the standard bike, while keeping the same 1,103cc V4 engine.

Is the Panigale V4 SP the same as the V4 R?

No. Ducati’s own filing places the SP between the standard V4 and the V4 R, which remains the homologation special built for racing with its own more radical engine and chassis spec.
