Harley-Davidson Unveils Production Sprint 440 at EICMA: Low 683mm Stance
683mm bucket seat + 440cc long-stroke single delivering 38 Nm + Harley and Hero drop the roadster posture for a proper bobbed cruiser.

Harley-Davidson has officially taken the wraps off the definitive production version of the 2027 Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 at EICMA 2026 in Milan. Representing the second major production fruit of the Milwaukee brand’s engineering and manufacturing alliance with India’s Hero MotoCorp, the Sprint 440 marks a sharp stylistic departure from the upright, standard-roadster proportions of the Indian-market X440. Instead, the Sprint 440 adopts a genuine slammed cruiser profile, pairing an ultra-accessible 683 mm (26.9 in) seat height with a bobbed rear fender, swept bars, and forward-mid footpeg geometry.
While earlier spy photos and patent leaks hinted that Milwaukee was simply re-skinning the existing platform, the finished machine reveals a substantially re-engineered subframe, revised suspension valving, and distinctive styling cues aimed directly at the European A2 and global beginner markets. With a characterful 440cc air-and-oil-cooled thumper producing 38 Nm of low-end torque, the Sprint 440 gives Milwaukee an authentic entry ticket against the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and the newly revealed Norton 450 Urban.
Co-Developed 440cc Air/Oil-Cooled Long-Stroke Thumper
The 2027 Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is powered by the familiar 440cc single-cylinder, 2-valve, air-and-oil-cooled engine developed in tandem with Hero MotoCorp. Featuring a heavily undersquare bore and stroke (79.6 mm x 88.4 mm), the powerplant is tuned to prioritize low-rpm chug over screaming top-end revs, producing 27 hp at 6,000 rpm and a generous 38 Nm of peak torque at just 4,000 rpm.
Power reaches the rear wheel via a 6-speed constant-mesh transmission equipped with an assist and slipper clutch, reducing lever effort in city congestion. Fuel metering is handled by electronic fuel injection through a single 38mm throttle body, meeting stringent Euro 5+ emissions standards. The engine retains traditional cooling fins across the cylinder barrel and head, complemented by a discreet forward-mounted oil radiator tucked neatly between the front downtubes.
“The Sprint 440 is about delivering genuine Harley-Davidson cruiser attitude in an accessible, agile package. We took the robust mechanical core developed with Hero and sculpted a chassis with an ultra-low center of gravity, making highway cruising and urban filtering equally natural for newer riders.” — Harley-Davidson International Product Presentation, EICMA Milan
Cruiser Architecture: 683mm Stance and Modern Hardware
Where the Sprint 440 truly differentiates itself from its roadster cousin is in its chassis layout. A revised tubular steel cradle frame drops the scooped solo saddle down to an ultra-low 683 mm, allowing virtually any rider to place both feet flat on the ground at traffic lights. The steering head is kicked out slightly to lengthen the wheelbase for improved straight-line stability, complemented by forward-shifted foot controls.
Despite its traditional cruiser silhouette, the hardware is surprisingly contemporary. The front end is suspended by a beefy 43mm inverted fork offering 130 mm of wheel travel, matched at the rear to twin gas-charged emulsion shock absorbers with remote piggyback reservoirs and 7-step preload adjustment.
Wheels are cast aluminum in a cruiser-appropriate 19-inch front and 17-inch rear staggered configuration, wrapped in MRF Zapper Hyke rubber (100/90-19 front, 140/70-17 rear). Braking duties fall to ByBre hydraulics, featuring a single 320mm front disc with an axially mounted twin-piston caliper and a 240mm rear disc, backed by dual-channel ABS. Instrumentation is housed in an offset, circular 3.5-inch color TFT display offering smartphone Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation and incoming call management.
The Rider’s Trade-Off
Slamming the seat height to 683 mm creates immense psychological confidence at low speeds, but it severely limits cornering clearance and rear suspension travel. With just 95 mm of stroke from the twin rear shocks, rough European cobblestones and sharp expansion joints will transmit directly into the rider’s lower spine. Furthermore, to preserve the sleek bobbed aesthetic, Harley-Davidson fitted a modest 9.0-liter teardrop fuel tank. Even with an efficient single sipping fuel at roughly 3.3 L/100 km, the Sprint 440 will require a fuel stop every 230 to 250 km, confirming that this is an urban cruiser and weekend cafe Hopper rather than a long-distance cross-country tourer.
