Jawa just launched a bobber wearing chequered flag graphics at a chess tournament, which is either the most Anand Mahindra thing I’ve ever seen or exactly the kind of crossover marketing that works on someone like me who’d rather scroll bike news than actually play chess.

What launched, and for how much

Jawa has launched the All Stars 42 Bobber in India, a special-edition version of its 334cc Bobber, unveiled by Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra at the Global Chess League 2026. Pricing starts at Rs 2,08,942 (about EUR 2,220) for Mystic Copper and rises through Jasper Red at Rs 2,15,942 and Shadow Black at Rs 2,17,942, topping out at Rs 2,19,942 (roughly EUR 2,340) for Black Mirror – a fifth colour, Silver Knight, is also part of the range without a separately confirmed price at launch. Jawa calls this its second “All Stars” bike, following the 42 FJ All Stars earlier this year, and every variant gets the same chequered-flag graphics and “All Stars” insignia over an otherwise unchanged Bobber.

Nothing mechanical changed, and that’s the point

The engine is the same 334cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC four-valve single doing 29.5 bhp (30 PS) at 7,500 rpm and 30 Nm at 5,500 rpm through a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch, the same one that’s been in the standard 42 Bobber. Chassis numbers carry over too: 177 kg dry weight, a 12.5-litre tank, 740 mm seat height, dual-channel ABS, and a 35 mm telescopic front end with a 7-step preload-adjustable monoshock out back. This is a graphics-and-marketing special edition in the literal sense – Jawa isn’t pretending otherwise, and at these price increments (as little as Rs 7,000, around EUR 75, over the base colour) it’s a reasonable way to buy into the livery without paying a real premium for it.

For anyone doing the mental comparison to Europe’s own retro-bobber crowd: BMW’s own 2.0-litre R20 boxer prototype shows how far up the cruiser scale this genre goes, and Indian’s own limited-run Chief Vintage Sturgis SD Edition shows the same anniversary-livery playbook works at a much higher price point too. None of these bikes are landing in EU showrooms officially, but they’re the same genre of bike EU riders cross-shop when they’re looking at a Royal Enfield Meteor or a Guzzi V7 Stone.
