Zontes has made its most aggressive bid for the European performance market to date at EICMA 2026, officially premiering the all-new ZT853-R naked streetfighter. Powered by an 847cc liquid-cooled inline-triple producing 150 hp (148.5 bhp) and 90 Nm of torque, the machine pairs superbike-tier power output with a minimalist 10 kg aluminium beam frame and a single-sided swingarm.

While European manufacturers have spent recent years creeping middleweight naked displacement and pricing toward the €14,000 mark, Zontes has arrived in Milan with a clean-sheet three-cylinder platform equipped with DLC-coated Kayaba suspension, Brembo radial monoblocs, and integrated carbon aerodynamic winglets straight from the showroom floor.

An 847cc Triple Screamer Delivering 150 HP

The Zontes ZT853-R is driven by an in-house developed 847cc liquid-cooled DOHC 12-valve three-cylinder engine that revs to a blistering 12,500 rpm redline. It pumps out 150 hp at 12,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 9,000 rpm, translating to a claimed 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h.

Rather than mirroring Yamaha’s long-stroke CP3 architecture that prioritizes bottom-end grunt, Zontes opted for a rev-hungry oversquare bore-and-stroke configuration. A ride-by-wire throttle system governs power delivery across multiple riding modes, while a six-speed transmission comes equipped with an assist-and-slipper clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter as standard factory equipment. Exhaust gases exit via an underslung 3-into-1 stainless collector with a compact, slash-cut silencer positioned ahead of the rear tire to optimize mass centralization.

“The ZT853-R represents the culmination of four years of dedicated multi-cylinder powertrain development. We set out to prove that our engineering division can deliver true super-naked performance and chassis rigidity without the astronomical price tags of European boutique brands,” stated Zontes’ technical director at EICMA.

10 kg Aluminium Beam Chassis, Single-Sided Arm, and Brembo Hardware

Underneath the angular bodywork lies an ultra-lightweight cast aluminium beam perimeter frame weighing a claimed 10 kg, complemented by an intricate single-sided cast aluminium swingarm that leaves the rear wheel fully exposed. Suspension hardware is sourced directly from Kayaba, featuring 43mm inverted front forks with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated stanchions offering 115 mm of travel and full manual adjustability for compression, rebound, and spring preload. The rear monoshock operates via a progressive linkage with full damping adjustability.

Braking performance is handled by dual 310 mm floating front brake discs clamped by radial-mount Brembo M4.30 four-piston monobloc calipers, paired with a radial front master cylinder and a 240 mm rear disc. Electronic safety is governed by a full six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that orchestrates cornering ABS, multi-level lean-sensitive traction control, launch control, and a four-level adjustable wheelie control system.

The styling is pure aggressive streetfighter, punctuated by functional carbon-fibre front aerodynamic downforce winglets integrated directly into the radiator shrouds. The cockpit features a full-colour horizontal TFT display running Zontes’ Intelligent Control System 4.0, which incorporates NFC keyless card ignition, Bluetooth smartphone navigation, call management, and real-time tire pressure monitoring.

The Rider’s Trade-Off: Peak Screamer Power vs Low-RPM Road Tractability

The mechanical compromise on the Zontes ZT853-R centers on its peaky, high-revving engine calibration. In chasing 150 hp from 847cc to rival larger hypernakeds like the BMW M 1000 RS, Zontes pushed peak torque up to 9,000 rpm and peak power to 12,500 rpm. On a wide-open track or fast B-road, screaming through the gears with the quickshifter will be exhilarating.

However, around tight city roundabouts or climbing greasy Alpine hairpins at 3,500 rpm, the ZT853-R will lack the instant, effortless roll-on shove of the longer-stroke Yamaha MT-09 CP3 engine. Riders will have to work the gearbox more frequently to keep the engine in its power band. Furthermore, while the single-sided swingarm looks magnificent in showroom lighting, it adds unsprung mass compared to a conventional braced aluminium unit.

European Pricing and Market Arrival

Zontes confirmed that European distribution of the ZT853-R will begin in late spring 2027 through established importer networks in Germany, France, Italy, and the UK. While official MSRP will be announced closer to dealership arrivals, company representatives target an aggressive retail price around €9,950 across major EU markets.

Much like the hyper-aero statement made by the CFMoto V4SR-RR, the ZT853-R demonstrates that Chinese manufacturers are no longer merely assembling budget parallel twins. If the production chassis valving and IMU calibration match the raw hardware on the spec sheet, Zontes has created the biggest value upset in the European streetfighter segment in a decade.
