CFMoto's 550MT Just Got Spied Testing, and I'm Already Benching the 450MT I Don't Even Own
CFMoto's rumored 550MT pairs a 526cc twin with ADV touring looks -- and I'm already pretending I can afford the upgrade from my 450MT.
I own a CFMoto 450MT — well, “own” is generous, the finance company owns most of it — and I have ridden it exactly twice since August. So obviously the correct response to spy shots of its bigger brother is to start mentally spec’ing an upgrade I have no business making.
What’s actually been spotted
CFMoto is reportedly developing a 550MT adventure-tourer, a larger-capacity sibling to the existing 450MT, with camouflaged prototypes photographed ahead of a possible unveiling at EICMA 2026 in Milan this November and a 2027 model-year launch. The spy shots reportedly show rally-inspired bodywork, a taller windscreen than the 450MT’s, and an upright, touring-biased riding position — the shape of a bike built for a few more hours in the saddle, not just a few more cc.
The reporting is consistent that the engine would be a 526cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin, borrowed from the unit already doing duty in CFMoto’s 550CL-C cruiser, where it makes 53 PS (around 52 hp, 39 kW) at 9,000 rpm and 51 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Tipped equipment includes ride-by-wire throttle, cruise control and an upgraded TFT dash over the 450MT’s. None of this comes from CFMoto itself — there is no press release, spec sheet, price or official photo yet, and the reports differ on whether the 550MT joins the 450MT range or eventually replaces it.
It’s a familiar shape of story this month — Kawasaki’s own teaser for a new KLE650 is going through the exact same pre-EICMA drip-feed, just one class size up.
450MT vs. the rumored 550MT
Nobody’s published real 550MT numbers, so the right side of this table is CFMoto’s own 550CL-C engine spec carried over — not a confirmed motorcycle spec. Treat it as “what the donor engine already does,” not “what the 550MT will do.”
| Spec | CFMoto 450MT (current, EU) | CFMoto 550MT (rumored) |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 449cc parallel-twin | 526cc parallel-twin |
| Power | 42 hp (31 kW) @ 8,500 rpm | ~52 hp (39 kW) @ 9,000 rpm (est., from 550CL-C) |
| Torque | 42 Nm @ 6,500 rpm | 51 Nm @ 6,000 rpm (est., from 550CL-C) |
| Wet weight | 185 kg | not reported |
| Fuel capacity | 17.4 L | not reported |
| EU price (450MT, for reference) | from ~€6,000 | unconfirmed |
That 42 hp to ~52 hp jump matters for one specific reason in Europe: 42 hp already leaves the 450MT comfortably inside A2-licence territory (the EU cap is 35 kW, about 47 hp), but 52 hp pushes the donor engine’s output past that line. CFMoto would almost certainly need to offer a restricted A2 version of the 550MT the way most manufacturers do with anything over the limit — worth watching for when (if) the bike actually gets a spec sheet.
What we know
- CFMoto is working on a larger adventure-tourer above the 450MT, tentatively called the 550MT.
- The engine is very likely a 526cc parallel-twin derived from the 550CL-C cruiser (53 PS, 51 Nm in that application).
- EICMA 2026 (Milan, November) is the rumored reveal venue, with prototypes already spotted testing.
What’s still unclear
- Final power and torque figures for the motorcycle application specifically (tuning often differs from the donor engine).
- Weight, seat height, fuel capacity, suspension spec, and price.
- Whether the 550MT sits alongside the 450MT or eventually replaces it.
CFMoto’s home market has form for this kind of escalation — the brand has spent the last couple of years quietly working its way up through 300s, 450s and 650s on near-identical platforms, and CFMoto’s V4 SR-RR shows the company isn’t just playing in the budget-adventure space anymore. If the 550MT lands anywhere close to the 450MT’s current from-€6,000 EU pricing, it’s going to make a lot of mid-size ADV shopping lists — including, annoyingly, mine, right next to the loop I’ve been “finally doing this spring” for two years running.
FAQ
What engine will the CFMoto 550MT use?
Reports point to a 526cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin shared with the CFMoto 550CL-C cruiser, which makes 53 PS (about 52 hp) and 51 Nm in that bike — but CFMoto hasn’t confirmed the figures for an adventure-tourer application.
When will the CFMoto 550MT be revealed?
EICMA 2026 in Milan (November) is the rumored venue, with a 2027 model-year launch expected, but CFMoto has made no official announcement.
Will the CFMoto 550MT replace the 450MT?
It’s unclear. Some reports suggest the 550MT joins the existing 450MT as a bigger sibling; others suggest it could eventually replace it.
How much will the CFMoto 550MT cost?
No price has been confirmed. The current 450MT starts from around €6,000 in EU markets, which gives a rough floor for where the 550MT would need to land to stay competitive.
